by a well-known desi artist this weekend.
Club Area 51, located in Riviera Hotel, Juffair, in association with
High Life Bahrain presents
featuring DJ Andy tomorrow from 9pm.
Bohemia, born Roger David, is an ethnic Punjabi and was born in Karachi, Pakistan.
He migrated to the Bay Area, California, US, when he was
14-years-old and about a year later became a local musician and started
working as a keyboard player/music arranger, while living at local studios with other musicians.
The term Bohemia suggests flouting traditional mores and rap is all about personal angst or feelings.
Bohemia’s first album was Vich Pardesan De, in 2002, which was about coming to a foreign land.
Hip-hop was then limited to the underground and he pioneered Punjabi rap.
Pesa Nasha Pyar (Money,Intoxication, Love) was released in 2006 in
India and was the first-ever full length desi rap album to be
released worldwide on a major music label (Universal Music Group).
Through his experiences came raw raps depicting not just California
street life, but a life many South Asians lead in America.
After having burnt up music charts with his Bollywood songs, Bohemia’s
highly awaited album Da Rap Star, written and produced entirely by
Bohemia, hit number one on the Planet M Chart, India, and is nominated
as the Best Punjabi Album at the UK Asian Music Awards.
Bohemia also appears in the film Chandni Chowk to China for the
title track along with stars Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.
Meanwhile, Jasmine Sandlas is a singer, songwriter and
entertainer based out of California.
With a blend of elegant Punjabi lyrics and urban
California swagger, Jasmine plans to revive Punjabi
music one song at a time. Her life changed in 2001
when her family moved to California as she found herself
at the hub of the music world. As an independent
artist, she wanted to inject fresh sound into the desi music
scene.
Ms Sandlas is set to launch her first single Mang Ke from her upcoming
solo album. The music is produced by Bohemia and written by
Lalie Gill, who also wrote Muskan for Jasmine and the video is by
Hollywood video director, The Razor, known for his work with Chris
Brown. Hailing from Bahrain, Andy is an international DJ making his
way to the top. He is proud to be the first DJ to bring Bollywood
remix trend to Bahrain and is renowned as an official DJ for Forster
Art of Chilling and his electrifying music.
He started his career as a professional DJ in 2001 in
Bombay and is best known for his minimal tech, party breaks, Hindi, commercial remixes and electro.
